How to find Grassholme Farm
On the Pennine Way in Lunedale, at the west end of Grassholme Reservoir. Take the B6276 from Middleton-in-Teesdale to Brough. After approx three miles turn left at the cream cottage, signposted to Kelton. The farm is on your left after one mile.
What a great way to break your walk or stop off at the end!
Here is just one of many walks on our door step.
Selset & Grassholme bridge
Starting point: Selset Reservoir Car Park
Walk up to the Main Lunedale road and turn right along the minor road down towards Grassholme and cross the bridge. Continue up to the crossroads and turn right to follow the road for about half a mile. On your right is the Northumbrian Water bird hide offering views over Grassholme nature reserve.
This small reserve was established in 1957 and is home to a large colony of black-headed gulls. Other breeding birds include wigeon, snipe, oystercatchers and lapwings. Many birds visit the reserve as winter migrants or on passage to other areas. An information board gives you more details about the wildlife on the site.
Just past the hide entrance, turn right through agate and walk down over the bridge. Continue left and go over an old iron stile before climbing up the steep grassy bank beneath Selset dam and back to the car park where you started. |
